Car rental at Fiumicino Airport: a few practical points

A year ago, when planning our trip, we decided to save money and booked a car rental in Italy via the Internet. As a result, the overpayment from the tariff announced on the site amounted to 130 euros for 6 days of rental. Lesson learned from the trip - in terms of insurance with Italians, you should be extremely careful.

The famous brand through which we booked cars at Fiumicino Airport is known throughout Europe for its orange color. And really car rental cost in Italy other sites turned out to be more expensive. A competitive price was also offered at Maggiore, however, not being familiar with the company, I decided not to risk it. I ordered insurance "From Everything" through the site.

Going to Rome, in my head I had only one doubt - whether Italians would give me a car under ordinary Ukrainian rights. As practice has shown: they worried about the rights in vain - they gave out cars, but with insurance and other nuances, a real hassle arose.

Firstly, at the airport I had to look for a representative office of the same “orange” company for a very long time, through the website of which we booked a rental cars in Fiumicino. As it turned out, he was simply not there, and the cars were issued through the office of the partner company Maggiore. However, this was only the beginning.

After seeing our reservation printed on the printer, the manager offered to purchase a local analogue of CASCO insurance. To our surprise, that, they say, insurance was already included in the price when ordering a car through the site - the manager spread his hands and said that he knew nothing about it, and the coordination of details requires a call abroad, where it is currently night. Therefore, we should either rely on our careful driving or wait 7-8 hours at the airport to agree on the details.

After long bickering, we decided to get insurance, however, the overpayment for this pleasure was 130 euros. From this whole story, we have learned one useful lesson: it is better to always get insurance on the spot separately from car rental through the site. Otherwise, all sorts of nuances are possible, the solution of which will require time, money and nerves.
