Where to eat in Rome: reasonably priced places to eat

Trastevere is an old district of Rome, locals call it "gastronomic paradise". In their opinion, it is in this picturesque area that the best restaurants, taverns, trattorias are located.

Cozy restaurants in Rome

Restaurants and cafes in the historic center of Rome are frankly overpriced. These establishments have a high traffic of visitors, so the owners try to take the maximum from tourists and do not seek to impress and get regular customers. You can dine together somewhere in Piazza Navona for a "modest" 60 euros, plus the required percentage for the service.

Another thing is the ancient district of Trastevere. The Romans call it "gastronomic paradise." According to local residents, it is in this colorful area that the best restaurants, taverns, trattorias are located.

Bottega Fienaroli

Bottega Fienaroli

First place can be given to the popular Bottega Fenaroli bistro. The cozy place belongs to the owner, keen on cooking and loving his job. There are no “on-duty” pizzas and pastas, but they serve delicious cheeses, different types of prosciutto, jamon, excellent wines and rare varieties of craft beer, which are not found in other institutions of Rome. Each type of product, each bottle of alcohol is selected carefully and meticulously. They will tell you in detail: where and how the products are made, when they are made and brought to the restaurant. The owner of Bottega Fienaroli, Signor Giacomo, is engaged in another business during the day, and in the evenings he meets guests at his establishment.

If you are attracted by a cozy, calm, hospitable atmosphere, you like delicacies and do not mind spending an evening with a bottle of wine - you will like it at Fenaroli. You can try traditional Italian dishes at lunch, in some metropolitan pizzeria, and for dinner go to Giacomo for culinary delights, order, for example, carpaccio and buffalo mozzarella. A meal for two with alcohol will cost 40-60 €.

The Impecchetta go to appreciate traditional Roman cuisine. The menu is small, but the selection is sufficient, a lot of meat dishes. Serve the lamb (Abbraccio), grilled or in a wood-fired oven, Saltimbok Saltimbokka and chicken in Roman style, pizza of three sizes, different types of pasta. For dessert, we recommend taking tiramisu, it is excellent here. The bill for lunch for two is about 40 €. A table at Impiccetta must be booked in advance.

In "Carlo Menta" - the most humane prices for quality and delicious dishes. The establishment is popular: there are often lines, local residents constantly come, and they are picky. It serves "exemplary" pasta of all kinds, delicious homemade fatte in casa lasagna, Carlo Menta branded pennies. The usual hot dishes and soups are prepared at an average level. The pizza is served standard, as are the desserts. We recommend taking home-made wine: a liter of red or white vino della casa will cost you only 8 €. The service at Carlo cannot be called perfect, but this is offset by low prices: pasta costs 5 €, pizza - 5-7 €. Lunch for two - about 30-40 €.

Restaurant "Rugantino" is an osteria with traditional Roman and Mediterranean cuisine, with an original interior, stylized as an ancient institution, and pleasant live music. The prices here are relatively low, the service is excellent: the waiters can be questioned, the staff speaks English and can provide interesting information on each dish of the menu. It is worth trying any pasta option, especially with mushrooms, the Roman specialty chicken in sweet pepper - Pollo colli peperoni. Dinner for two at the Rugantino will cost 40-50 €.

The restaurant belongs to a family of true Romans who welcome guests with hospitality and Italian temperament. Osteria La Botticella serves ancient Roman cuisine, while retaining its simple, authentic taste. It is worth trying cheeses, sauté from shellfish and mussels, carbonara paste, ravioli with mushrooms. In La Botticella - very appetizing steaks, delicious lamb meat; they cook fish well here - grilled sea bass. The bill for two will be from 40 to 70 €: the price tag is not the cheapest, but well-deserved. The portions are large, but try to eat everything you ordered so as not to offend the owners. The institution "Gift of the Poet" offers the best pizza in Rome - yeast-free, tender, juicy. Food lovers say she is divine. I want to return to this pizzeria, there are often queues. They cook here according to the classical canons - in a wood-burning stove. Pizza is also sold to take away, but it is better to wait in line and eat in a cozy basement room or at an outdoor table. The menu offers many options prepared according to traditional and original recipes, for example, pizza with Grand Marnier liquor or Sarmonata specialty with salmon. Try all kinds if you have enough time. For two here you can spend 25-30 €.

The average price for spaghetti is € 6-7 (€ 12 for the most exquisite pastas - with artichokes and lamb). Order here also Jewish artichokes, Roman oxtails and, of course, home-made wine.
